Fungi of New Mexico Having been the registrar for the New Mexico Mycological Society for a number of years I have available a lengthy list of mushroom species that have been found and identified by our various Mycologists. It seems like it might be of interest to some of our visitors. Therefore I am posting that list here of those mushrooms, beginning with the Agarics.
The key to the edibility column is:
Please note that not all mushrooms that are listed as edible are edible to everyone. (nor savored by everyone) some people are allergic to all mushrooms while others may be allergic to one or two. Always when trying a new species taste only a tiny bit first and do not swallow that tiny bit. Never when eating any species for the first time eat more than a small amount regardless of how delicious it may taste. Touching a mushroom even a deadly one is not harmful but wash your hands before eating anything else. Never experiment with those mushrooms listed as deadly. They really are deadly. The only treatment for a case of Amanita poisoning is a kidney and/or liver transplant and that is a very high price to pay for a fungal meal regardless of how tasty it may be.
