The most deadly family of mushrooms are the Amanitas. Here are the ones that have been found in New Mexico to date. Please notice that many of the Amanita family are excellent edibles but identification is very difficult therefore it is not recommended. Never to eat any of the mushrooms that have white spore, a volva and a ring. Also notice that there are a number of yet unidentified species about which very little is known. Collect those mushrooms, note as many of the characteristics as you can, dry the specimen and then take it to the nearest mycologist or expert for identification. Never taste or eat any such specimen.
