Master Gardener programs in New Mexico There are currently about 350 active master gardeners in New Mexico, spread among 11 counties: Bernalillo, Chaves, Doņa Ana, Lea, Los Alamos, Otero, San Juan, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Taos, and Valencia. In addition over 2000 people have taken the Master Gardener in the past 22 years that we have had the program. The New Mexico State University (USDA) is charged with the responsibility to provide education on agriculture and horticulture to the residents of New Mexico. The training of Master Gardeners is just one of the many programs provided through them to carry out this responsibility. Additional programs include the 4H program, home economics, farmers markets, Xeriscape Council, Think Trees, EFNEP and many more.
